Refuse to give up your dreams

When my team asked me to write a blog, I was stuck between 2 choices, whether to write on my own or make someone write it for me. This is because I was never a good writer. Finally, I decided to go ahead and pen my experiences into a blog which might be of interest to all of you. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur; it runs in my blood/genes, whatever you may call. I worked in various profiles in financial service organizations before setting off on my entrepreneurial venture. They say ‘Necessity is the mother of all inventions’. My entrepreneurial journey too started somewhat in a similar fashion.

Here are first steps you should take as an entrepreneur:

  • Identify key interests and shortlist one major interest in which you want to excel and where your heart is.
  • Do market research and analyze potential.
  • Keep sufficient savings which can take care of your family’s basic needs.
  • Your partner’s support is important and crucial.
  • And, last but not the least, prepare yourself for a few years of difficult life.

This is how I zeroed in on Pre-primary education as a good venture. My love for kids and my inherent qualities of a woman and my desire to excel in this field made me choose this. As an entrepreneur (who had good professional experience) I had to leave my comfort zone before my new journey started. The comfort of getting salary at the month end, the comfort of staying in 5 star properties and dining in finest restaurants, the comfort of taking last minute flights all vanished on Day 1. I had to be choosy on how I spend my capital. I started learning the true value of every penny. Attitude becomes a key differentiator when we want to be an entrepreneur. On a day to day basis you would see more failures than success. It becomes imperative that we see long term benefits and keep a positive attitude and continue working on achieving basic goals. An entrepreneurial journey gives you many opportunities, but the one thing I have learnt is to focus on one thing at a time, spend resources and energy on achieving that ‘ONE’ thing that would make a difference to the project and keep re-inventing to make it successful.

No entrepreneurial journey is short. It is long and has to be planned and executed perfectly. This long term journey would pay you back. Think and prepare for long term. In the last 2 years, I kept following my dreams, saw many failures, kept correcting myself, listened to my heart, but I never lost sight of my DREAM.

“Every successful person was once an unknown person who refused to give up on his dream.”
